MMHA Return to Play Plan

MMHA Parent Screening and Agreement

MMHA is committed to getting players back on the ice in the most safe and efficient manner. It is our intention to offer each player a minimum of 2 ice times per week as in previous years, however we must work through the logistics of it all.

We are planning on starting ice times for some of our skaters starting the week of September 21st. At this time, we are scheduling times for teams where coaching staff is in place. Please be patient as we continue to try to organize the groups and coaches for this over the next week(s) for the other teams. All ice times will be posted on the MMHA website on September 20. 2020.

There is a 48-participant limit per arena. Due to this MMHA is restricting the number of parents/guardians in the building at all times. For the younger age groups (U5, U7, U9) one parent/guardian is able to enter the arena after the players have entered. This parent/guardian will need to perform a self-screening prior to entering and will be required to give their name to the volunteer at the front door. This parent must stay for the duration of the ice time and exit from the designated exit. All physical distancing, directional arrows and seating restrictions as laid out by the City of Merritt must be adhered to. There will be no in/out privileges. For the older age groups (U11, U13, U15, U18) the participants allowed per arena will be players, coaches, managers and safety people.  The MMHA Board has decided that the players are the priority and we hope that all parents respect these rules. If we do not adhere to this strict number in the arenas the City will revoke our ice times. This will apply to all MMHA participants, Recreation and Rep included. Once numbers of participants allowed in the building increase, we will definitely open the doors to more parents and spectators. We are hopeful that this will be soon.

  • All players must enter the arena through the main entrance and must come dressed, other than skates and helmet. If your child is unable to tie their own skates, we encourage skate guards for when they enter the building. We have limited seating in dressing rooms, so the faster we can get skaters to the ice surface the better.
  • U13, U15, U18 players are permitted to dress in the change room to a maximum of 8 players or less per room. (please see posted signs for capacity) It is recommended that parents ensure that their players can get their gear and skates on and off within the 15-minute time frame before and after their ice time. If this is not possible, it is asked that players come dressed. No showers are available.
  • All players must bring a pre-filled water bottle with their names clearly marked on the outside of the bottle. There will be no sharing of water bottles.
  • Players will need to have a health check agreement completed and signed by parent/guardian prior to arriving at arena. (Sent in as an attachment to this email) At each ice time team designate will confirm a health screening has been done. If it has not been completed, the child will not be permitted in the arena.
  • We ask that all participants wait outside the main doors of the arena (physically distanced) until the health screener has gather their forms and is ready to proceed.
  • All players will be directed to the dressing rooms while parents will go directly to the stands.  No parent should be in dressing rooms at this time.
  • Game play will resume once OMAHA, BC Hockey and Via Sport deem it safe to do so.
  • OMAHA and BC Hockey are working diligently with Via Sport to include the benches in the playing field. As of September 15th, benches are permitted to hold up to 5 players.
  • Absolutely NO SPITTING at any time in the arena.
  • Players will exit the building through the side door along Garcia St.

If you are interested in coaching any of the following please contact the email address below.  Unfortunately at this time, we will not be able to offer ice times to these groups as we do not have the staff in place.

  • U5 (preschool)
  • U7 (Initiation)
  • U18 Recreation (Midget)

We are also in need of team managers for

  • U13 Recreation (Peewee)
  • U15 Recreation (Bantam)
  • U18 Recreation (Midget)

If after reading this you would like to be considered for a position as a volunteer coach, manager or safety person for a team, please look under the volunteer page on our website for the required qualifications. If at that time you are still interested please contact Molly at secretary@merrittminorhockey.com for further information and instructions.

Thank you for your patience as we continue to navigate this season of hockey.
